According to the National Health Commission, China, the death toll due to the viral outbreak of the coronavirus currently stands at 2835, and the number of infected people is more than 79,000. The cases of the coronavirus are being reported from all over the world, with 205 new cases were reported in the last day, from Iran.
In a situation where coronavirus is close to becoming a global rampant a vaccine against the virus is one of the few flickering hopes we have.
According to recent reports, a biotech company states that the 1st vaccine against coronavirus is now ready for a human trial.US Biotech Firm, Moderna, has sent an experimental coronavirus vaccine to the US government researchers, in a time period as short as 6 weeks from the time they started working on the immunization.
The trials of the vaccine would commence from April, but the whole process of testing and approvals could take at least a year.Moderna (MRNA), the biotech company, in a press release statement on Monday, said that the first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine called the mRNA-1273 has been sent to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The biotech company also said that the first trial would be conducted on small no.of healthy people.
Although Moderna is not the only biotech company looking forward to find immunization against the virus. Other global pharma giants are also working on a vaccine, and so are government scientists. However, the little time in which researchers have made the vaccine ready for human trial is enormous. As compared to the 2002 SARS outbreak, and a vaccine developed against it, the time taken to develop the experimental vaccine is a breakthrough.
