Andhra Pradesh government to distribute ration, cash relief at doorsteps

People in Andhra Pradesh to get free ration at their doorsteps on March 29 because of the nationwide lockdown to hold the spread of coronavirus, State Civil Supplies Minister Kodali Srivenkateswara Rao said on Wednesday.
The ration cardholders need not go to the public distribution system shops for biometric verification as the process has been suspended given the current situation.
Chief Minister of AP had earlier said that free ration, including dal, would be provided to the poor while financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per family also would be handed out because of the lockdown.
The cash aid will be distributed to all ration card holders on April 4 through the village volunteers, Rao said requesting the public to cooperate with the government in checking the spread of COVID-19, which has so far affected eight people in the state.
